San Vito dei Normanni: fatal train accident disrupts Bari-Lecce line

A fatal accident occurred on the Bari-Lecce railway line near San Vito dei Normanni when an 85-year-old man was struck by a Frecciarossa train. The incident, which took place around 7:45 AM, appears to have occurred while the man was attempting to cross the tracks; reports suggest he may have tripped.

The accident caused significant disruptions to rail services, including High Speed, Intercity, and Regional trains. Trenitalia implemented alternative routes via Taranto for some services, resulting in travel delays of up to 120 to 200 minutes, while other trains faced cancellations or route limitations.

Railway police and judicial authorities are investigating the exact dynamics of the accident. Regional Civil Protection volunteers were deployed to assist travelers during the disruption, and rail circulation began to resume slowly later in the morning.
