Italy emergency services conduct multiple maritime and domestic rescues
Italy has seen a surge in various emergency rescue operations involving maritime accidents, weather-related incidents, and humanitarian crises.
In a major humanitarian operation, the Emergency ship Life Support is docking in Bari with 48 rescued individuals and 7 deceased persons recovered from international waters near Libya. Among the survivors are 29 unaccompanied minors. The arrival follows a long journey after the vessel was denied a closer place of safety.
Maritime safety remains a high priority for the Coast Guard, which has conducted numerous rescues, including a family in San Vito Lo Capo and several individuals in Licata. In Melito Porto Salvo, a firefighter on leave successfully rescued two children from a SUP board caught in currents.
On land, severe weather in the Tigullio region caused flooding and required the rescue of a man trapped in a submerged underpass. Other domestic emergencies included a car plunging into a ditch in Scorzè, trapping four young people, and a gas leak in Ostiglia that left a woman unconscious. Additionally, a child was saved from choking in a public pool in Sant’Agata de’ Goti by a healthcare worker.
