Sanaa Ministry of Interior condemns strike on Mayun Island lighthouse

The Sanaa Ministry of Interior has condemned an attack by Saudi forces on the Mayun Island lighthouse, also known as the Bab al-Mandab lighthouse. The ministry stated that the 170-year-old facility, overseen by the Coast Guard, is a vital civilian installation used to guide ships, particularly at night.

The ministry warned that targeting this navigational aid threatens the safety of maritime transit in the Bab al-Mandab strait, one of the world's most critical waterways. They emphasized that the impact of such actions extends beyond Yemen, affecting international trade, sailors, and global supply chains.

In a statement, the ministry accused Saudi Arabia and the United States of attempting to militarize the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab strait. They called on international maritime organizations to take a clear stance against the targeting of civilian navigational facilities and to ensure the protection of maritime safety and Yemeni sovereignty.
