Sanae Takaichi considers Go To Eat and premium gift certificates

During a House of Councillors Budget Committee session, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi revealed that her administration is considering support measures for the food service industry to mitigate the impact of consumption tax cuts. These potential measures include the introduction of premium gift certificates and the revival of the ‘Go To Eat’ campaign, which was previously used as a demand-stimulation measure during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Economists have debated the effectiveness and risks of the administration's economic policies, known as ‘Sanae-nomics’. While some experts acknowledge that measures to combat rising prices have had certain effects on inflation and real wages, there are ongoing concerns regarding market confidence, the funding for consumption tax cuts, and the impact of rising interest rates.
