Sanae Takaichi ties China dialogue to parliamentary approval

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has signaled a willingness to engage in dialogue with China during the upcoming APEC summit, though she has made such steps contingent upon approval from the Japanese Parliament. By linking diplomatic outreach to legislative consent, Takaichi has shifted the decision-making responsibility from the executive branch to the legislature.

Separately, Takaichi addressed domestic economic concerns in Parliament, rejecting criticisms that her administration is responsible for the weakening yen and rising interest rates. While the yen's decline has benefited large exporters by increasing competitiveness, it has also pressured consumers and import-dependent businesses through higher costs. Takaichi maintained that the government's priority is overall national economic strength rather than targeting a specific currency level, suggesting that robust growth will naturally stabilize the markets.
