Sanagasta, Argentina chosen to represent nation in UN Best Tourism Villages 2026

Argentina’s Sanagasta department was selected to represent the country in the United Nations Tourism initiative “Best Tourism Villages 2026.” Governor Ricardo Quintela led a ceremony highlighting the area’s natural sites such as the Parque Geológico, Reserva Pampa de la Viuda Agustina and cultural attractions including the Virgen India pilgrimage and Festival del Chayero. Sanagasta was chosen from more than 56 national submissions, and the nomination is expected to raise its international profile and attract technical assistance from UN Tourism.

Quintela emphasized the community’s hospitality, saying, “Everything that comes to Sanagasta leaves enchanted, and the people’s quality is a major attraction.” Tourism minister Gustavo Luna called the event “a historic day” for the province, noting recent investments in local attractions like the Dique Park and Dinosaur Park. The provincial government announced new tourism projects, including the continuation of Plaza San Martín and a full refurbishment of the Cueva de las Brujas theme park.
