Sancheong County completes first inland shipment of Nanchukmatdon black pork

Sancheong County has completed the first inland shipment of ‘Nanchukmatdon’, a premium black pork breed developed by the National Institute of Animal Science. Previously produced primarily in Jeju, the breed is being expanded to the mainland to establish a stable production base in inland regions.

Nanchukmatdon combines the high-quality meat characteristics of Jeju's traditional black pigs with the high productivity of Landrace pigs. It is noted for having more than four times the intramuscular fat of standard pork and a vivid red meat color. Following the distribution of 197 breeding pigs to local farms in Sancheong since last year, the first batch of pigs born and raised in the region was officially shipped this month.

To maintain brand integrity and prevent the mixing of different pork types, all Nanchukmatdon produced in Sancheong will be distributed exclusively by specialized companies under the Nanchukmatdon Research Association. This management system aims to ensure consistent quality and protect the trademark value as production expands beyond Jeju.
