Sanchong Police Precinct officer dies by suicide amid financial pressure

A 32-year-old investigative officer from the Sanchong Police Precinct in New Taipei City died by suicide in his dormitory early on the 14th. The officer, a graduate of the 31st class of the Police Academy, was reportedly performing duty shifts when the incident occurred.

Preliminary investigations suggest the officer was facing significant financial pressure, with a suicide note mentioning debts totaling approximately 3 million TWD. The note expressed gratitude to his family, captain, and colleagues while offering apologies for his actions.

The Sanchong Police Precinct has assigned personnel to assist the family with funeral arrangements and benefits. In response to the incident, the precinct and the police department have activated psychological support measures, including trauma workshops for frontline colleagues and access to contracted mental health clinics and counseling services.
