Sanctuary of San Pio da Pietrelcina introduces new liturgical paraments

The Sanctuary of San Pio da Pietrelcina in San Giovanni Rotondo has introduced new liturgical paraments designed by the Capuchin Friars Minor in collaboration with Desta. The vestments, available in white, red, green, and violet, feature a stylized cross inspired by the wound on Padre Pio’s side, a detail documented by Dr. Giorgio Festa in 1919.

In conjunction with these developments, the Fraternity of San Giovanni Rotondo has launched the solemn novena and liturgical celebrations for the feast of San Pio. The theme for this year, ‘Padre Pio, degno figlio di san Francesco’ (Padre Pio, worthy son of Saint Francis), emphasizes the spiritual connection between Padre Pio and Saint Francis of Assisi, inviting the faithful to model their lives after these saints as the Church approaches the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis’s death in 2026.
