Sandai to launch Pokémon-themed fermented tea in Nagasaki
Sandai, a food company based in Omura, Nagasaki, will release ‘Dendilus no Nagasaki Kocha Biwa’ on October 22, 2026. The product is a 500ml fermented tea made from 100% Nagasaki-grown tea leaves and loquat leaves.
This release is part of the ‘Pokémon Local Acts’ initiative, a regional revitalization project. The packaging features Dendilus, which was appointed as the ‘Nagasaki Future Support Pokémon’ following a partnership agreement between Nagasaki Prefecture and The Pokémon Company in June 2024. The character was chosen due to its glowing tail, which resonates with Nagasaki’s many islands and lighthouses.
The tea is produced using a unique ‘mixed fermentation method’ developed through over 20 years of research involving local producers, universities, and research institutions. This method involves fermenting tea leaves and loquat leaves together while fresh to reduce bitterness and astringency.
To mark the launch, Sandai will hold a courtesy visit to the Governor of Nagasaki and a promotional event at the Nagasaki Prefectural Office. The product will be available at various local retailers, including Youme Town Saito and Nihonbashi Nagasaki-kan, with e-commerce options planned for the future.
