Sander Skotheim wins Decastar decathlon and secures World Championship qualification

Sander Aae Skotheim won the Decastar decathlon in Talence, France, securing the qualifying standard for the World Athletics Championships in Beijing. Skotheim finished with a total of 8630 points, surpassing the 8620-point requirement.

Skotheim’s victory was bolstered by a strong pole vault performance, where he cleared 5.31 meters, and a 60.45-meter throw in the javelin. He maintained a lead over American rival Hakeem McMorris, who finished with a lower point total despite setting a personal record in the javelin.

Markus Rooth, the 2024 Olympic gold medalist, competed in his first decathlon since the Paris Games. Rooth achieved strong results in the discus and javelin but finished the competition in 9th place with 8209 points.
