Sandfall Interactive prioritizes creative vision over market expectations
Sandfall Interactive, the French studio behind the successful Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, intends to prioritize creative freedom over meeting market expectations for its next project. Guillaume Broche, the studio's creative director and CEO, stated in recent interviews that the team aims to develop games they personally enjoy rather than chasing a specific audience.
While the studio's debut title achieved significant commercial and critical success—selling 8 million copies and winning multiple Game of the Year awards—Broche noted that the team is prepared to make drastic decisions for their upcoming title, even if it risks disappointing some players. The next project is currently in pre-production, though specific details regarding genre or story remain unknown.
Regarding the future of the franchise, Broche indicated that Clair Obscur may function as an anthology series, similar to Final Fantasy, where Expedition 33 represents only one story within a larger universe. This approach would allow for new worlds and protagonists in subsequent installments.
