Sandheide hosts hedgehog protection project for children

The Sandheide district management in Erkrath, in collaboration with the Bruchhausen Nature Conservation Center and the Du-Ich-Wir association, is hosting a free hedgehog protection project for children aged six and older. The program will run from October 19 to 22.

Participants will learn about the lives of native hedgehogs and the threats they face, such as climate change, habitat loss, pesticides, and robotic lawnmowers. Since 2024, hedgehogs have been included on the Red List. Under professional guidance, children will build weather-resistant winter shelters using wood, hammers, and nails to support the local hedgehog population.
