Sandip Ghosh granted bail in RG Kar financial irregularities case
The Supreme Court of India has granted bail to Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in a case involving alleged financial irregularities at the institution. The decision has sparked significant backlash from the family of the junior doctor who was raped and murdered at the hospital in August 2024.
Sekhar Debnath, the victim’s father, has expressed concerns regarding the accountability and transparency of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He has threatened to launch fresh protests in West Bengal to demand justice, stating that political affiliations will not deter his pursuit of the case.
Medical professionals and activists have also voiced disappointment, calling for the CBI to clarify investigation delays and urging the implementation of a fast-track court to expedite the trial. The bail was granted by a Supreme Court bench citing Ghosh’s prolonged incarceration and the slow progress of the trial.
