Sandisk Corp joins S&P 100 amid market shifts and expansion risks
Sandisk Corp has officially joined the S&P 100 index, a move that places the flash memory producer alongside major technology companies such as Dell Technologies and Palo Alto Networks. While the inclusion brings prestige and triggers incremental buying from index-tracking funds, analysts suggest the stock's recent performance is more closely tied to NAND demand and the company's earnings cycle than the index rebalancing itself.
However, some market perspectives remain cautious. Concerns have been raised regarding supply constraints and aggressive capacity expansion. Sandisk is involved in a $31 billion joint investment in Japan, which requires the company to fund 50% of the joint venture's capital expenditures. This increases financial exposure at a time when current high NAND pricing may be unsustainable due to declining consumer volumes and potential shifts in enterprise demand.
