SanDisk shares fall amid AI spending doubts and sector volatility

SanDisk shares have experienced significant volatility, recently dropping 7.2 percent amid a broader sell-off in the technology sector. This decline is attributed to market concerns regarding the sustainability of massive artificial intelligence infrastructure spending and rising bond yields following higher-than-expected inflation data.

Market uncertainty in the memory sector has also been fueled by technological advancements from the Chinese chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT). While CXMT's progress in dense memory cell designs has caused industry-wide anxiety, analysts note a distinction in market focus: CXMT primarily targets the DRAM sector, whereas SanDisk specializes in NAND flash storage products.

Investors are closely watching for SanDisk's upcoming quarterly results, which are scheduled for release on October 29.
