Sandown Centre transforms former racetrack into agricultural hub
The Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture is transforming a former horse racetrack in North Saanich into a hub for sustainable agriculture. Located on the traditional territory of the W̱S͸ḴEM First Nation, the project has transitioned from an 83-acre undertaking in 2021 to a focused 13.5-acre site that currently supports 12 farms.
The center includes non-profit organizations such as Sandown Farm and FarmFolk CityFolk. To refine its mission, the center has delegated the management of surrounding forests and wetlands to the Habitat Acquisition Trust.
Additionally, the district is developing a 1,700-square-foot Harvest Hub. This facility is intended for food aggregation, processing, storage, community food security programs, and a local market to support the needs of the farming community.
