Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return in Practical Magic sequel
The film “Da Magia à Sedução: Feitiço de Amor” (Practical Magic 2) has premiered in Brazilian cinemas, serving as a sequel to the 1998 classic. Directed by Susanne Bier, the story follows the Owens sisters, Sally and Gillian, played by Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, twenty-five years after the original events.
The plot centers on the continuation of the family curse, which causes men who fall in love with women of the Owens lineage to die. Sally, having become a widow for the second time, attempts to protect her daughters, Kylie and Antonia (played by Joey King and Maisie Williams), by making them forget their witchcraft. However, when Kylie falls in love and her partner faces a life-threatening accident, she seeks to uncover the truth about the curse, leading her to London to find a way to break it.
Critics note that the film balances sweet and dark elements, exploring themes of grief, mortality, and family bonds. While the return of Bullock and Kidman is highlighted as a central strength, some reviews suggest that the development of the younger generation of characters, such as Joey King’s character, could have been more robust.
