Sandra Bullock discusses partner Bryan Randall's death from ALS

Actress Sandra Bullock has spoken openly for the first time about the death of her longtime partner, Bryan Randall, who passed away in August 2023 at age 57 following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Appearing on the SmartLess podcast, Bullock revealed that she honored Randall’s request to keep his diagnosis a secret from the public. She noted that maintaining this privacy, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, felt isolating. Bullock shared that she began grieving his loss four years before his actual passing, as the disease had impacted a significant portion of their eight-year relationship.

Bullock described the experience of caregiving and raising her two children while managing the secret as a dark and difficult period. She noted that the mental and physical decline of her partner meant he had effectively departed long before his body did. The actress is now gradually returning to work, including upcoming projects such as Practical Magic 2.
