Sandra Hüller stars in ‘Rose’, Austria's Oscar entry

MUBI has released the trailer and poster for ‘Rose’, the third feature film by Austrian director Markus Schleinzer. The film has been selected by Austria as its official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.

Set in 17th-century Germany during the Thirty Years' War, the story follows a mysterious, scarred soldier who arrives at an isolated Protestant village. Claiming to be the heir to an abandoned farm, the individual eventually gains the community's trust through hard work and religious devotion. However, the narrative reveals a profound deception: the soldier is actually a woman who has been posing as a man.

Starring Sandra Hüller, who received the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance at the Berlinale for this role, the film is an Austro-German co-production. It is scheduled for release in Italian theaters on February 4, 2027, distributed by MUBI.
