Sandra Hüller to portray Wolfgang Herrndorf in new film

Actress Sandra Hüller has been cast to portray the late German writer and artist Wolfgang Herrndorf in the upcoming film “Arbeit und Struktur”. In a notable casting choice, Hüller will take on the role of a man to depict Herrndorf’s life.

Directed by Maria Schrader and co-adapted by Jan Schomburg, the film is based on Herrndorf’s autobiographical work of the same name. The book, which became a literary phenomenon in Germany, chronicles Herrndorf’s experiences following his 2010 diagnosis of an incurable brain tumor.

Hüller described the project as both a “great honor and a profound challenge,” noting that Herrndorf’s writing has deeply impacted her since her first encounter with it. Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2027, with a planned theatrical release in 2028.
