Sandra Wollner's 'Everytime' Wins Cannes Film Festival Prize
Austrian director Sandra Wollner's family drama "Everytime" received the top award in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. The film, praised for its restrained yet powerful cinematography by British‑American cinematographer Gregory Oke, follows mother Ella (Birgit Minichmayr) and her two daughters after a tragic accident and their later return to the Canary Islands. Critics highlighted the film’s elliptical storytelling and the camera’s long, quiet movements that respect the characters’ grief. "Everytime" opens in German cinemas on 6 August, featuring Lotte Shirin Keiling and Carla Hüttermann alongside Minichmayr.
The Cannes accolade marks a significant breakthrough for Wollner, whose previous work includes the acclaimed short "Aftersun". The film’s nuanced handling of loss, mourning, and familial bonds has been noted as a standout in this year's festival lineup.
