Sandıras Mountain hosts seven-century-old Yoruk tradition
Thousands of Yoruks from various regions of Turkey gathered in the Beyağaç district of Denizli to participate in the seven-century-old Kartal Lake and Eren Day celebrations. Held at an altitude of 2,300 meters on Sandıras Mountain, the event serves as a ritual to preserve regional cultural heritage.
Participants camped overnight around Kartal Lake before embarking on a 5-kilometer hike to the Çiçek Baba summit. There, they visited the Eren Dede Tomb, a site featuring a grave measuring 42 meters in length and 4 meters in width, where attendees offered prayers and made offerings.
Beyağaç Mayor Sezayi Pütün emphasized the importance of protecting this ancestral legacy. He called for collaborative efforts between the Beyağaç, Köyceğiz, and Denizli Metropolitan Municipalities to ensure the site is preserved and passed down to future generations.
