Sandrine Rousseau and Charles Consigny clash over Paris protest violence
During a live broadcast of RMC’s ‘Les Grandes Gueules’ on October 19, Paris ecologist deputy Sandrine Rousseau engaged in a heated confrontation with columnist Charles Consigny regarding the violence that occurred during protests in Paris on October 17.
Consigny criticized Rousseau and the political left, attributing the unrest to mass immigration, a failing penal system, and left-wing policies. He accused the left of being a burden on taxpayers and suggested that political figures should apologize to the French people. Rousseau, in turn, blamed the government’s operational decisions and law enforcement strategies for the escalation of violence, noting that the situation was a complete breakdown of order.
The debate occurred amidst political instability following the protests. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez had submitted his resignation in response to the urban unrest, though President Emmanuel Macron rejected the resignation to ensure continuity of command.
