Former Inter Milan players Sandro Mazzola and Roberto Boninsegna have reconciled regarding Boninsegna’s 1976 transfer to Juventus. Mazzola expressed regret for not opposing the exchange involving Pietro Anastasi, stating he believed the move was in the best interest of Inter at the time.

Boninsegna clarified that the tension originated from tactical disagreements. He noted that Mazzola wished to transition from a world-class attacking midfielder to a deep-lying playmaker. Boninsegna had advised against this change, arguing it would reduce Mazzola's offensive impact and increase his physical workload.

Following these discussions, the then-president Ivanoe Fraizzoli reportedly informed Boninsegna that the club would decide his destination, noting that the only alternative to the transfer was retirement due to the lifetime club binding rules of that era. While the transfer was difficult, Boninsegna noted it was professionally successful, leading to two Scudetti, a UEFA Cup, and an Coppa Italia during his tenure at Juventus.
