Sandro Tonali sets record with Tottenham Hotspur transfer

Sandro Tonali has become the most expensive Italian footballer of all time following his transfer from Newcastle United to Tottenham Hotspur during the 2026 summer transfer window. The deal, valued at approximately €115m including bonuses (or £100m), sets a new record for an Italian player.

Tonali’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, stated that the move was facilitated by Tottenham’s clear project for the midfielder. Riso noted that while he assisted with communications, the record fee was a result of Tonali’s performance on the pitch. The transfer follows Tonali’s three-season tenure at Newcastle.

Other notable Italian transfers this summer include Marco Palestra, who moved from Atalanta to Chelsea for €60m. Palestra, a 21-year-old wing-back, is currently sidelined due to injury.
