Tottenham Hotspur announced two club‑record signings in the 2026 summer window. Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali will join from Newcastle United for an initial £92.5 million plus £7.5 million in performance‑related bonuses, a total fee of around €115 million, making him the most expensive Italian player and Tottenham’s costliest acquisition. Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes completed his move from West Ham United for a fixed £85 million fee, also breaking the club’s previous record. Both players cited manager Roberto De Zerbi’s project as a key factor in their decisions, and medicals have been completed. The deals follow Tottenham’s earlier free‑transfer acquisitions of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka and Jan Paul van Hecke. The club is also reported to be targeting forward Maghnes Akliouche and Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi, with interest from PSG and Arsenal, as part of a broader squad rebuild aimed at avoiding another relegation battle and competing for higher league positions.

These transfers underscore a shift in Tottenham’s transfer policy, moving from a traditionally restrained wage structure to a willingness to spend heavily to strengthen the midfield and attack under De Zerbi.
