Sandvik achieves advanced cybersecurity certification for mining equipment

Sandvik has achieved the IEC 62443-4-1 Maturity Level 3 (ML3) certification for its secure product development lifecycle, making it one of the first mining equipment manufacturers to reach this level.

This certification validates that cybersecurity practices are systematically applied during the day-to-day development and maintenance of its technologies. Sandvik previously held Maturity Level 2 (ML2), which demonstrated the existence of defined secure development processes, whereas ML3 confirms their systematic implementation.

The assessment was supported by evidence from the Sandvik Intelligent Control Architecture (SICA), a common control system platform used across the company’s i-series mining equipment. As mining operations increasingly rely on automation, connected equipment, and digital solutions for production-critical processes, the company stated that cybersecurity is becoming essential to operational resilience and business continuity.
