Sandwich police officer arrested for OUI after off-duty crash

Sandwich Police Officer Matthew Cotter has been placed on paid administrative leave following an off-duty crash on Friday night. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Grand Oak Road in Forestdale, where a vehicle reportedly drove through bushes and struck a parked car.

Responding officers identified Cotter as the driver. Due to suspicions of impairment, the Massachusetts State Police were called to investigate the crash. Cotter was subsequently arrested on operating under the influence (OUI) related charges and processed at the Bourne Barracks.

In addition to the crash, police are investigating an alleged assault involving a relative of Cotter who reportedly became verbally and physically abusive at the scene. The Sandwich Police Department stated it is conducting a thorough internal investigation and remains committed to accountability and integrity.
