Sandwichman visits Auschwitz concentration camp for special program

The Japanese comedy duo Sandwichman will feature in a special two-hour broadcast of ‘Sandwichman & Ashida Mana no Hakase-chan,’ documenting a visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau German Nazi concentration camp in Poland. The program explores the site, a ‘negative World Heritage site’ where over one million people, including Jews, were murdered by Nazi Germany.

Guided by 20-year-old expert Toma Richard Yamamoto, the duo will visit museum exhibits containing personal belongings of victims, such as piles of shoes. The broadcast also highlights acts of resistance, including photographs secretly taken by prisoners to document atrocities and paintings created in defiance of guards.

The report includes access to restricted areas, such as the gas chambers and adjacent crematoria, as well as the barracks where prisoners lived under harsh conditions. The segment aims to convey the historical reality of the Holocaust to viewers through direct observation of the preserved sites and ongoing restoration efforts.
