Sandy Alcántara leads MLB in innings pitched for Miami Marlins
Sandy Alcántara concluded the 2026 MLB season with the Miami Marlins by demonstrating versatility, transitioning from his traditional role as a starter to a reliever in the final weeks. Alcántara led the Major Leagues in innings pitched, finishing the campaign with a 13-11 record, a 3.87 ERA, and 214 innings.
In the final game of the regular season, Alcántara secured his third save of the year, helping the Marlins defeat the Atlanta Braves 5-3. This performance follows a significant recovery from Tommy John surgery. Miami Marlins President of Baseball Operations Peter Bendix noted that the organization is open to exploring similar innovative uses of pitchers in the future. Alcántara’s future with the team remains subject to a $21 million contractual option for 2027.
