Sandy Lodge Hotel denies housing asylum seekers
The Sandy Lodge Hotel in Newquay has issued a statement denying that it is currently housing asylum seekers, following community concerns and inquiries. A spokesperson clarified that while the hotel previously worked with the local council to provide emergency housing, it has not provided such accommodation for over four months.
The clarification follows reports regarding the hotel's past use for emergency housing. The hotel noted that the cessation of these services occurred prior to the sentencing of triple murderer James Desborough. Desborough resided at the hotel between December 2024 and April 2025, during which time he befriended Claudio Aquilino and Daniel Coleman before dismembering and concealing their bodies. Police are currently reviewing four unexplained deaths that occurred at the hotel during Desborough's residency.
