Saneouro faces scrutiny over brown water reports in Amarantina

Residents of the Amarantina district in Ouro Preto have reported recurring issues with brown, turbid water being distributed by the utility company Saneouro. Local inhabitants claim the problem has fluctuated since 2022, with water quality varying significantly from week to week.

Saneouro stated that water produced at its treatment station meets Ministry of Health standards. The company has deployed maintenance teams to investigate potential deviations within the distribution network.

The situation has prompted political scrutiny. Saneouro has failed to meet the first quarterly accountability deadline required by municipal law, which was due in July. Consequently, the company has been summoned to appear before the City Council on August 26. If they fail to attend, local officials may initiate a Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) to investigate the sanitation contract.
