Sanepar recognized for sustainability and announces decarbonization goals
Sanepar, the sanitation company of Paraná, has been named a finalist for the II Brazil-Portugal International Sustainability Award 2026. The company is competing in the Governance – Large Companies category for its ‘Água Segura’ (Safe Water) program. This initiative utilizes predictive intelligence to preserve water sources and benefits approximately 11 million people across Paraná.
The Água Segura program focuses on five pillars: advanced technological monitoring, land use inspections near reservoirs, environmental conservation and restoration, geospatial surveillance systems, and a financial compensation fund for rural producers who adopt conservation practices. The program aims to increase operational efficiency, reduce water loss, and enhance systemic resilience.
In a separate environmental initiative, Sanepar has finalized a Decarbonization Plan aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with sewage treatment by 65% by 2050. Developed over 20 months of study, the plan includes 44 specific initiatives targeting carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. This plan positions Sanepar among the first Brazilian sanitation companies to establish such a comprehensive framework for addressing climate change through operational and energy efficiency improvements.
