Sanfic 2026 announces Chilean film competition lineup

The 22nd edition of the Santiago International Film Festival (Sanfic) is scheduled to take place from November 2 to November 8, 2026. The Chilean Film Competition section will feature nine films, showcasing a diverse range of voices, territories, and generations within the national industry.

Notable entries include the film ‘Monguen,’ described as the swan song of the late documentarian Antonio Caro. Other highlighted works include Thomas Woodroffe’s debut feature ‘Bloques erráticos’ (Erratics) and Andrés Waissbluth’s ‘Animales,’ a dystopian fiction. The competition aims to connect Chilean cinema with both local audiences and the international stage.

This festival occurs amidst a period of growth and transition for the Chilean film industry, which saw a 20.5% surge in its recent industry catalog. However, the sector faces potential challenges due to announced budget cuts to the Ministry of Culture and audiovisual investment funds under the administration of President Jose Antonio Kast.
