Sanggye Paik Hospital conducts infectious disease response drill

Sanggye Paik Hospital conducted a simulation training exercise on September 30 to prepare for infectious disease outbreaks. Following guidelines from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, the drill involved multiple departments, including the emergency room, outpatient clinics, and intensive care units, to test cooperation and response procedures.

The simulation focused on scenarios involving Avian Influenza (AI) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). Staff practiced initial patient identification and isolation, specimen collection, medication administration, and patient transfer. The training also covered the use of personal protective equipment, controlling patient movement paths, medical waste disposal, and environmental disinfection.

Additionally, the hospital conducted training for Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS). This included managing situations where medical staff might be exposed to blood or bodily fluids during high-risk procedures, as well as protocols for contact management and deceased patient care. Hospital Director Bae Byeong-no emphasized the necessity of a consistent, hospital-wide response system to ensure patient safety during infectious disease crises.
