Sangineto homicide investigation: Orsino brothers receive differing court rulings
A judge at the Court of Paola has issued differing rulings for two brothers, Umberto and Domenico Orsino, regarding the death of Antonio Perrotta. The incident occurred on August 10, 2026, following a fight outside the “Il Castello” venue in Sangineto, leading to Perrotta's death at the Annunziata Hospital in Cosenza.
Judge Maria Grazia Elia ordered the immediate release of Umberto Orsino, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to justify his detention. Conversely, Domenico Orsino will remain in custody, but the charge has been reclassified from the prosecution's original allegation of voluntary homicide to preterintentional homicide.
The judge noted that the initial detention could not be validated because there was no concrete evidence of a flight risk. Although the brothers reside in Luxembourg, the court found that their pre-booked flight and their presence in Belvedere Marittimo did not indicate an attempt to evade authorities.
