Sangju to implement AI drone wildfire surveillance system

BonAI and its subsidiary D-Makers are developing an AI and drone-based smart wildfire surveillance system for Sangju, South Korea. The project aims to establish a 24-hour monitoring network to detect fire signs and smoke in the region's extensive forest areas.

The system integrates AI-driven video analysis algorithms, long-endurance drones capable of flying for up to 55 minutes, dedicated drone stations, and AI-enabled CCTV. The drones are equipped with infrared thermal imaging cameras to track heat sources and embers even through thick smoke or during nighttime operations. Additionally, the drones feature loudspeakers to provide evacuation guidance to residents and hikers.

This customized infrastructure is designed to account for Sangju's specific terrain and communication environments. Beyond wildfire monitoring, the platform is intended to expand its capabilities to include landslide detection, flood response, and missing person searches. The final disaster safety platform is scheduled to be handed over to Sangju in May 2027.
