Sangomar oil field drives Senegal's crude exports to 1,528 billion FCFA

The exploitation of the Sangomar oil field has significantly transformed Senegal's trade balance. Following its official start in June 2024, 2025 marked the first full year of commercialization for the country's crude oil.

According to data from the National Agency of Statistics and Demography (ANSD), the value of Senegal's crude oil exports rose to 1,528 billion FCFA in 2025, a substantial increase from 464 billion FCFA in 2024. This growth has propelled crude oil to become the country's primary export, accounting for 21.9% of total exports.

Overall, Senegal's total export value grew by 48.5%, rising from 3,909 billion FCFA in 2024 to 5,805 billion FCFA in 2025. This surge is attributed to both crude oil sales and the introduction of liquefied natural gas shipments. Europe remains the leading destination for Senegalese crude, generating 978.6 billion FCFA in 2025, followed by Asia with 427.6 billion FCFA.
