Sangster International Airport construction worker death under investigation
An investigation is underway following the death of construction worker Everton Campbell at the Sangster International Airport construction site in Montego Bay, St. James. The incident occurred at the north side of the eastern concourse.
Preliminary reports from the Transport Ministry suggest the death may have involved the failure of mechanical equipment. Portfolio Minister Daryl Vaz stated that the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) has been notified and is working with the Ministry on the matter. Vaz emphasized that workplace safety and accountability must remain a priority during infrastructure development.
MBJ Airports Limited, the operator of Sangster International Airport, has suspended works at the construction site temporarily. The company expressed condolences to the family and stated it would arrange counseling and support.
