Sani Abacha reportedly died of cardiac arrest during intimate encounter

Former Assistant Director of Nigeria’s Department of State Services, Dennis Amachree, claims in his memoir that former military Head of State General Sani Abacha died from a cardiac arrest on 8 June 1998 while engaged in an intimate encounter with the younger sister of his girlfriend at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Amachree says the girlfriend arrived at the Aso Rock Guest House around 2:40 a.m., accompanied by her pharmacist sister. The sister was alone with Abacha when, at about 4:05 a.m., he became motionless. She checked his pulse, found none, and fled the premises without alerting security, telling a guard the leader had asked for a car. Security operatives were only informed at 5 a.m., missing the opportunity to intervene. The former officer rejects earlier theories that Abacha died from poisoned apples or a conspiracy.

These allegations are presented in Amachree’s newly released book “DSS @ 40: My Journey Behind the Shield,” providing an eyewitness account supplied by the woman present at the time of the death.
