Sani Kaita urges Super Eagles to target 2027 AFCON title

Former Nigeria international Sani Kaita has called on the Super Eagles to use the disappointment of missing the 2026 FIFA World Cup as motivation to qualify for and compete for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.

Kaita, who represented Nigeria at the 2006 and 2010 AFCON tournaments and the 2010 FIFA World Cup, believes the team possesses the necessary quality to not only qualify but to challenge for the continental crown. Nigeria is set to begin its qualifying campaign under coach Eric Chelle this month.

The Super Eagles are drawn in Group L alongside Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau, and co-host Tanzania. Nigeria is scheduled to play Madagascar in Uyo on September 25, followed by a match against Guinea-Bissau on September 29.
