Sanija Ameti withdraws appeal against Zurich court ruling

Former politician Sanija Ameti has withdrawn her appeal against a ruling by the District Court of Zurich. The court had previously found her guilty of disturbing religious and cult freedom.

The conviction stems from a September 2024 incident in which Ameti used an air pistol to fire approximately 20 shots at an image of Jesus and Mary, later sharing the act on Instagram. The incident led to significant public backlash, including her expulsion from her political party and loss of employment.

Ameti was sentenced to 60 daily rates of 50 Swiss francs on probation, along with a 500-franc fine. While Ameti has withdrawn her appeal, the case may not be fully finalized as several private complainants, including Nicolas Rimoldi and Nils Fiechter, have filed their own appeals.
