Sanjay Dutt clarifies remarks on peace in India after social media backlash

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has issued a clarification following social media backlash over remarks made on the talk show ‘Shekhar Tonite’. During a Gandhi Jayanti special episode, Dutt stated that he could no longer feel the same sense of peace in India, despite praising the hospitality and large-heartedness of its citizens.

Dutt explained that the comments were part of a scripted, satirical segment where he adopted his iconic ‘Munna Bhai’ persona to imagine himself as Prime Minister. He noted that the intention was to use humor and the concept of ‘Gandhigiri’ to convey messages of love, warmth, and togetherness, rather than to offend any individual, community, or institution.

The remarks drew criticism from various quarters, including BJP MLC Parinay Fuke, who criticized the actor's comments. Dutt maintained that his words were misinterpreted and were intended to be light-hearted satire.
