Sanjay Leela Bhansali signs Ranjan Chandel for historical epic

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has signed director Ranjan Chandel to helm a new historical epic under Bhansali Productions. The project has been in development for approximately one year, with Chandel having worked closely with Bhansali on the script.

While specific details regarding the plot remain confidential, the writing phase is complete, and the production is expected to begin in the first half of 2027. The project will move into the casting stage once Bhansali completes his current directorial commitments.

Chandel is recognized for his work on the crime drama series ‘Grahan’ and the film ‘Bamfaad’. This collaboration marks a shift for Chandel, who is typically known for grounded, realistic narratives, into the lavish and visually rich style characteristic of Bhansali Productions.
