Sanjay Nishad claims fish without onion and garlic is vegetarian

Uttar Pradesh minister and Nishad Party chief Sanjay Nishad has sparked debate by claiming that fish prepared without onion and garlic can be considered vegetarian. Making these remarks during the holy month of Sawan—a period when many Hindus traditionally abstain from non-vegetarian food—Nishad argued that the lack of opposition from religious authorities regarding such a claim serves as validation.

During a news program titled ‘Badalta Purvi Uttar Pradesh’, Nishad also addressed the identity of the Nishad community. He stated that symbols such as the bow and arrow, associated with the state government, are emblems of pride for his community. He further characterized political supporters of the Nishad legacy as brothers, while labeling opponents with derogatory terms.

Additionally, Nishad commented on a recent visit to London, where he shared a stage with Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan. He noted the growing Indian presence in the United Kingdom and remarked on the visibility of Indian culture abroad.
