Sanjay Raut accuses Centre of injustice to Maharashtra cooperative sector
Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has written to Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, alleging that the central government is committing “injustice” against Maharashtra’s urban cooperative banking sector.
Raut raised objections regarding the passage of the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, claiming it was passed during the Monsoon Session without sufficient scrutiny. He specifically criticized the inauguration of the National Urban Co-operative Finance Development Corporation (NUCFDC) office in Mumbai, noting that the premises were formerly the headquarters of the Apex Urban Co-operative Bank of Maharashtra and Goa.
According to Raut, the property was seized without the consent of its members, which he described as a direct attack on the state's cooperative movement. He noted that the Apex Bank has been in liquidation for several years and that member societies are still awaiting asset distribution. Raut also pointed out a lack of transparency, stating that transfer order details are missing from the websites of the Ministry of Cooperation and the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
