Sanjay Raut alleges jail poisoning may have caused his cancer

Sanjay Raut, a prominent Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP, has alleged that he may have been poisoned while incarcerated in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail, potentially leading to his stomach cancer diagnosis.

Raut stated that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had previously expressed concerns regarding his safety in prison and suggested he undergo a toxicity test to determine if his food or water had been tampered with. Raut claimed that the government is capable of extreme measures against political opponents and suggested that other leaders facing health issues after imprisonment might have faced similar treatment.

Raut was held in jail for 101 days between August and November 2022 in connection with the Patra Chawl land case. He was diagnosed with stomach cancer in November 2025 and has since undergone chemotherapy and radiation. He indicated that he intends to undergo a toxicity test soon.
