Sanju Samson earns support from Gambhir after strong T20I return

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has regained momentum in the T20I squad following a period of scrutiny. After being omitted from recent tours due to low scores, Samson recorded two half-centuries and a strike rate of 180 during a series against Afghanistan.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir defended Samson’s inclusion, emphasizing that T20 cricket is defined by impact rather than just cumulative statistics. Gambhir noted that Samson’s talent was previously proven when he was named Player of the Tournament during India’s T20 World Cup victory. He also highlighted a team milestone where India reached 100 runs in the Powerplay for the first time during his tenure.

Former India batter Anjum Chopra has also voiced support for the player, suggesting that the selection committee should provide Samson with more stability to allow him to play freely without the constant pressure of questioning his place in the team.
