Sanju Samson matches cricket records despite India loss

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson equalled batting records held by Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh during a T20 international against the West Indies in Ranchi. Samson scored 82 runs from 41 balls, including nine fours and four sixes, helping India reach a total of 249/5.

During his innings, Samson matched Virat Kohli’s record for the fastest T20I fifty by an Indian against the West Indies, reaching the milestone in 21 balls. He also equalled Yuvraj Singh’s tally of five T20I half-centuries scored at a strike rate of 200 or above.

Despite Samson’s performance, India suffered a six-wicket defeat. West Indies captain Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 102 from 45 balls, and Sherfane Rutherford added 84 from 37 deliveries, leading the visitors to a successful run chase and leveling the five-match series at 1-1.

Former cricketer Hanuma Vihari noted that Samson’s recent inconsistent form, including low scores during the Asian Games, may be attributed to the intense mental pressure and insecurity regarding team selection within the national squad.
